Lithium Spodumene

This is a natural occurring pyroxene mineral that occurs mostly in crystal form and usually associated with most lithium minerals such as lepidolite, eucryptite and petalite. Spodumene rarely occur alone in nature and Lithium is the third element on the atomic table with symbol Li.
Lithium Spodumene can be found in both Northern and Southern part of Nigeria with some large deposits known to occur in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Oyo, Kogi States of Nigeria. The Lithium that occurs in Nigeria are commonly from the petalite, amblygonite, and lepidolite. The LiO2 content in Spodumene in Nigeria is one of the richest in the world as compared to most countries with huge investment in the extraction of Lithium such as Australia. The LiO2 content could be as high as 7.01% to over 12%.
Lithium is used in manufacturing large spectrum of batteries for mobile phones, electric cars, and other electronic devices. They are also used in alloying in combination with other metals such aluminium, cadmium, copper or manganese mostly for parts in airplane manufacture. It is also used by pharmaceutical companies for treatments of some mental health disorders.
